The National Osteoporosis Foundation (NOF) named Amy Porter the new Executive Director and CEO of the Foundation effective February 1, 2010.

Amy Porter has worked in the nonprofit sector for more than twenty years. Porter is a proven leader with a background in management, communications and development. Prior to obtaining her position at NOF, she served as the Executive Director of the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health. During her tenure there, the visibility of the Foundation (FNIH) was considerably enhanced and its assets grew significantly. Prior to joining FNIH, Porter served as Director of Development of the National AIDS Fund and was Director of Development, Major Gifts for Volunteers of America, a national nonprofit organization that provides health and human service programs to 1.5 million people across the United States each year. Porter received her bachelor’s degree from Kent State University and received the Honorary Alumni Award from the University of Akron in 2008.

 

Gary Barbarash

Gary R. Barbarash joined the National Osteoporosis Foundation (NOF) in January 2011 as the Director of Operations. He is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the day-to-day administrative and operational activities of NOF including Human Resources, Contract Management, Facilities Management, Information Technology, and all NOF Administrative Policies and Procedures. Prior to joining NOF, Mr. Barbarash worked as a senior advisor for the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health and thirty years in various scientific and administrative capacities with the National Institutes of Health. Mr. Barbarash received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Washington University in St. Louis and a Master’s degree in Business and Public Administration from Southeastern University.

 

Susan Randall
Senior Director of Science and Education

Susan Randall joined the National Osteoporosis Foundation (NOF) 2003 as Senior Director of Science and Education. Her responsibilities include broad oversight for NOF's patient and healthcare professional educational initiatives, including patient information services and consumer publication content development and production. Ms. Randall was awarded the Masters of Science in Community Health Nursing from the University of Alabama, Birmingham, Alabama. Her undergraduate education includes an RN Diploma from Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing, a BSN from Florida International University and BA (Social Sciences) from Park College. Post-Master’s education includes continuing education certificates from the Washington Health Policy Institute at George Mason University and Health Care Management certificate from Georgetown University.

 

Valerie Patmintra
Director of Communications and Marketing

Valerie Patmintra joined the National Osteoporosis Foundation (NOF) in July of 2011 as the Director of Communications and marketing. In this role, she is responsible for planning, overseeing and executing all communications and marketing efforts on behalf of NOF. Her responsibilities include developing and implementing the Generations of Strength: Mothers and Daughters public awareness campaign, driving the organization’s website and digital strategy, developing the NOF Annual Report and Osteoporosis Report newsletter and conducting media outreach and promotional activities to further establish and enforce the NOF brand. Ms. Patmintra holds a bachelor’s degree in public relations from the University of Florida.
